Highway 606 (farys mill road) is very highly travelled and is in a sad state of disrepair. The road needs to be entirely replaced.

Thank you for taking the time to express your concerns on the Speak Up Gloucester website. Public roads in Virginia Counties are operated and maintained by VDOT with some limited funding provided by the Commonwealth to make improvements. Our local Board of Supervisors is afforded the ability to direct this limited funding for secondary roads (route numbers 600 or higher) that they feel most require improvement within the relatively limited budget made available in our community.

With this said, complete replacement of roads would exceed available funding by a wide margin. Perhaps there are particular issues related to the condition of Farys Mill Road that could be addressed either with maintenance funds or secondary road improvement funds. Please provide more detail relative to the specific conditions that prompted your evaluation of disrepair and then County staff will review and coordinate with VDOT to strategize on how to potentially improve the situation.

VDOT confirmed that they are aware of the poor conditions along sections of Farys Mill Road and have both near term and long term plans for maintenance. You should see preliminary improvements this week with potholes being patched. As the weather improves this spring, the worst sections will receive overlay paving by VDOT directly with their paver. Full length paving by a contracted paver (like was recently completed on Indian Road) is scheduled to start 2018.
